Layout and style options

The default style sheet for [ EMPS ] is “Grey Spaces”. It is a liquid, pseudo multicolumn layout well fitted for most monitor sizes.

As an alternative, “Stripped Spaces” is a high-contrast, larger font layout, which should be more appropriate for people with poor eye-sight.

A third option, “Multicolumn Spaces”, is an experimental layout based on the CSS3 multi-column layout module. This alternative is highly experimental, and currently only works in recent browsers based on the Gecko 1.8 rendering engine (such as nightly builds of Firefox and Camino). It is a variation on the default layout, and other browsers will just see the defaults.
This option has been dropped at the moment. It will come back, when time allows to build a new implementation.

[ EMPS ] is also fully accessible to users of handheld devices such as mobile phones. A special style sheet is used for those devices. If that doesn’t work on your handheld device, sorry about that. I suggest you complain to the vendor of your device. Even if the page does not display as intended, it should be fully accessible.

Technology

Your choice of layout is remembered between visits by using an inoffensive cookie, that stores your preference on your own hard-disk. The style switcher mechanism is powered by some handy PHP code developed by James Benett (aka ubernostrum). More on this code on his site.

If you use a good browser, you can also select the style through your browser’s interface: the View menu should contain an item to select a style. Unfortunately for some, this is only available to users of Firefox, Opera, and iCab3.0.
